Atsushi Matsubara, MD
is a family physician board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  He completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1997.  Following his residency, he practiced in Weldon and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina until 1999, then in Mission, Texas until 2006.

He was born in Japan and completed his undergraduate and medical school degrees at Japan's top-ranked institution, Keio University in Tokyo, where he was president of his medical school class.

What he enjoys most about the practice of medicine is helping each individual patient understand how the body works, how and why various diseases occur, and what each person can do to optimize his or her health.

In his free time, Dr. Matsubara enjoys playing with his 2 sons, walking his 3 dogs, swimming, and tending his orchids.  He also is an avid amateur photographer and loves to travel, though his current life does not allow for much of the latter.

Norma Anderson, MD
is a family physician, board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  She completed her Family Medicine residency in 1995 in Santa Rosa, California, at Community Hospital (later named Sutter Medical Center), affiliated with the University of California at San Francisco.  She practiced in Cedar Rapids, Iowa until 1997, then Rich Square and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina until 1999, then in Mission, Texas until 2006.

Dr. Anderson especially enjoys the personal connection she makes with her patients and the privilege of sharing in their lives.  She values the opportunity to take care of a great diversity of people, including all ages from newborns through senior citizens.  As a woman physician, she tends to see many women for annual exams and other women's health issues and especially enjoys this aspect of her practice.  Another of her interests is preventive healthcare, including encouraging people to exercise and make healthy food choices.

In her free time, Dr. Anderson also enjoys playing with the 2 boys, swimming and walking the dogs.  Cooking is a necessary but fun activity, and reading is a longed-for but rare indulgence. Though she fondly remembers the "B.C." (Before Children) days of travel, she wouldn't trade her life now with little ones and nursing and diapers for all the trips in the world.

For the most part, Drs. Matsubara and Anderson will be alternating their working hours and home responsibilities.  If you suspect, as one patient once put it, that "there is something going on" between them, you are correct; they are married.
